Prayer & Prodigal

This Week’s Big Idea

Prayer isn’t a religious exercise or a complicated formula. It is direct living communication between the human soul and God.

The amazing thing is that God opened the channel first. Through Jesus, He made a way for us to communicate with Him—and for us to hear from Him. The question isn’t whether God is willing to communicate. The question is whether we are listening.

And sometimes the greatest tragedy isn’t that we’ve walked away from God. It’s that we are close to Him, yet still starving because we aren’t receiving what He has already provided.

The invitation is simple: return, receive, and cultivate the relationship.

Today's Scripture

Romans 15:13 (NLT) “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Today's Seed

The story of the prodigal son is a story about inheritance.

Something had been passed from father to child.

The son wanted.

He wasted.

He lived wild.

He became starving.

He became hungry.

And here’s the uncomfortable part:

We can be sitting in church three times a week and still be wanting things God doesn’t want for us.

We can be wasting our marriage and relationships.

We can say we’re followers of Christ while living wild.

We can look fine on the outside while starving on the inside.

The issue isn’t whether God has provided an inheritance.

The issue is whether we are receiving what He has already provided.

Salvation—sozo—speaks of being saved, healing, deliverance, freedom, fullness.

There is more available in Christ than simply surviving.

Beneath the Surface

The prodigal’s problem wasn’t that his father stopped being a father.

The inheritance was real.

The father’s heart was real.

The son had simply moved away from what had been provided.

Sometimes we don’t need God to provide something new.

We need to receive what He has already provided.

Don't Miss this

You can be close to the house and still be starving inside.

Tend the Garden

Spend a few quiet moments reflecting.

1. Where am I experiencing spiritual hunger right now?
2. What am I wanting that God may not want for me?
3. Am I receiving the inheritance I already have in Christ?

water the seed

Today, instead of asking God for something new, thank Him for something He has already provided.

Thank Him for salvation.

Thank Him for freedom.

Thank Him for His presence.

Thank Him for hope.

Then ask Him to help you receive it.

Grow this in me

Father,

Forgive me for the times I have looked everywhere except to You to satisfy what is missing inside me. Help me receive the fullness You have already provided through Christ. Fill me with joy, peace, and confident hope through Your Spirit.

In Jesus’ name, Amen

GOD PROVIDES THE CHANNEL. WE CULTIVATE THE COMMUNICATION.

The things we try hardest to hold onto are often the very things God asks us to plant.

Return to the Father. Receive what He has provided. Cultivate the relationship.

Prayer & Prodigal

You can be close to the house and still be starving inside.

Prayer & Prodigal

You don’t have to wonder whether God hears. Come to Him believing.

Prayer & Prodigal

Sometimes the answer isn’t a louder prayer. It’s less noise.

Prayer & Prodigal

God opened the channel before you ever thought to call.
